Bute and/or Banamine- Generally Bute is most effective for orthopedic pain (ie abscess, lameness) and Banamine is most effective for soft tissue or visceral pain (ie colic or swollen eye). Triple antibiotic ointment or other topical wound ointment is also good to have on hand for minor abrasions. If you are unsure whether to give these medications, how much to give, or how often please call your veterinarian.
